Does what it is designed to do... March 15, 2010 VideoPhile (Central Coast, California United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Purchased from another vendor - but same product. I have more than one - once fit, they are easy to mount & dismount. NC Star quality - with the riser, rail and base all one piece apparently cast instead of machined. Build quality is sufficient for field use. Finish/Matte is good quality. Considering that some quick release/detach mounts run into hundreds of dollars - for optic specific mounts - the NcStar is a good deal.
The only drawback is that it came with no instructions. To those familiar with quick release mounts a non-issue - for anyone else: FIRST CLEAR THE FIREARM [ASSUME ANY FIREARM IS LOADED] Then start by loosening the nut on the 'off side' [make sure you are not loosening the screw and nut together]. That allows the screw to be loosened. Unlock and place the on the rail in the desired position. Lock the release. Tighten the screw [not the nut too]until there is tension on the screw. Release the mount and remove it. [Here is a judgment call - if the screw is too loose - the riser will not be stable. If the screw is too tight - it won't be able to be locked or removed. Once the desired tension is obtained - tighten the nut - locking the screw in place. [After home fitting, I HIGHLY recommend taking the tools to the range - firing at least three test rounds - LOCK AND CLEAR THE FIREARM/SAFE - take it off the firing line - check the tension of the release - adjust as necessary. Test fire again following the same procedure. Seems like a lot of work - but once done - it is DONE.
One note - these are NOT 'see through' risers.
Best optics mount I've seen February 24, 2010 Jacob M. Miller (Memphis, TN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Yes, it's made by NCStar. Yes it's cheap. It is, however, an extremely useful optics mount if you want a quick change option. I have two of these for my AR-15. My scope is on one and my holographic is on the other. It's fully adjustable so you can get that perfect fit. It has a big, easy to find release handle and brings the optics to a much more comfortable height. I plan to put one on my shotgun as well.
Excellent value for money! June 4, 2010 Dan (USA) This thing is great - costs a fraction of big name stuff and does a fantastic job holding your scope stable, but allowing for quick release. Also the bits of overhang are very useful if you have a scope with long eye relief as you can get it that bit further forward. I'm using it on my AR-15. When you first get it, you have to tweak the side screw to get it just right on your rail - I'd recommend you get it as tight as possible where it will *just* slip onto the rail before throwing the lever and tightening. Highly recommended.
frequent shooter June 26, 2010 Tom G This quick release riser is a very handy way to quickly change optics on my AR. I have two of these, one for a 1-4x scope and one for a red dot sight that I sometimes use on the rifle. I can change between the two sights without losing zero. I did adjust the tension on the levers and used some blue loctite to make sure the adjustment stayed where I put it. You can spend almost $200 for a similar product if you want to but why do that? This is a great item
Great, affordable quick-release riser August 21, 2010 R. Keller (Vegas) Purchased to try out the idea of being able to swap a Red Dot on one quick-release riser and a small fixed power scope on a second riser. Used initially with a Burris Fast Fire II and once you figure out the fiddly initial setup, it works just peachy, putting the FFII in a direct co-witness on the application I am using. Returns to zero very well when removing then re-attaching.
Removed the FFII and put on the small fixed-power scope. Zero'd it in, then removed the riser, put it back on, and tested zero. I expected some difference was very please to note only a very, very small variation from inital zero. Tried removing and reattaching several times with the same results (very minor change from initial zero at 100 yards (longest range I'd be using this at). The ability to switch out my Red Dot for a 4X scope in a few seconds and still have very acceptable accuracy at 100yards make this quite a nice accessory. I'll be buying a 2nd one so I can get both sights mounted now for swapping out. Will keep the red dot on one, and the 4X scope on the other and be able to use either one with just a few seconds to swap them out.
